Why use the "IFS Food to BRCGS Food" application?

Nowadays, in terms of food safety, several standards are recognized worldwide, including the BRC and IFS standards.
These are 2 private standards, developed by English distributors (for the BRC), and French, German and Italian distributors for the IFS. They are intended for establishments that produce products under their brands or distributors.


The BRC and IFS standards differ from ISO 22000, which is an international food safety standard:

  • ISO 22000 sets performance requirements, while IFS and BRC also set obligations of means;
  • ISO 22000 applies to the whole food chain, while IFS and BRC are declined according to the various links of the chain;
  • ISO 22000, unlike IFS and BRC, does not address the issues of Food Fraud and Food Defense.

The latest version of the standard (BRC V.9) was published on August 1, 2022. The first audits of the BRCGS Food version 9 will be conducted in 2023.
